PEOPLE across Wiltshire are being urged to watch two new information films to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Utilities company Wales & West are hoping to save lives with their light-hearted cartoons that are intended to inform homeowners of what to do should they suspect a leak.

Carbon monoxide poisoning kills 50 people and leaves 200 serious ill every year and the colourless, odourless, tasteless gas is difficult to detect.

Clive Book, head of emergency and metering services at Wales & West Utilities, said: “We hope these short films will help drive the messages about the steps to take in a gas emergency and the importance of carbon monoxide alarms – taking on board the information contained within the forty seconds of the films could save lives.

“It’s important for people to realise that carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that doesn’t smell, has no taste and can’t be seen.

“We’re urging people to fit an alarm in their homes but to also store the emergency smell gas number 0800 111 999.”

The films are available on the company’s website wwutilities.co.uk
