PANCAKE-LOVERS of north Wiltshire will be doing battle next week, as the famous Sherston 1016’s annual pancake eating competition returns.
For the £2 entry fee competitors get a spot in the first heat, where they will have to eat four freshly-cooked pancakes against the clock.
The winner of the whole competition will have their name engraved on a 1016 commemorative engraved frying pan.
The popular family event also features a children’s competition, with less pancakes involved.
Where possible, all ingredients are sourced locally, with eggs coming from Sherston Free-Range Eggs, flour from Shipton Mill at Long Newnton, and lemons from Tucks greengrocers and butchers. All three companies kindly donate their products for the competition.
This year’s event takes place on the evening of Shrove Tuesday, February 9, from 7.30pm at the Rattlebone Inn.
