TWO properties were burgled in north Wiltshire last night (25) that police have suggested resemble similar burglaries in Sherston last week and Great Somerford before Christmas.

Malmesbury Police reported that both properties were occupied at the time by elderly residents and the offenders would have known that they were in.
Jewellery and cash was stolen and the thieves were in and out of the properties very quickly.

A spokesperson for Malmesbury Police said: “The offenders are looking for open windows or doors to bungalows, but will also resort to trying to pry open locked patio doors, windows or even front doors of outdated security design.

“They are actually targeting some of the poorest and most vulnerable persons in the community and are not afraid of being seen or confronted within the house.

“Please be extra vigilant around neighbours and family members whose properties may be more at risk.”

Wiltshire Police have said they are following up some leads with surrounding forces and have a patrol strategy in place.

They urge anyone with any information to call Wiltshire Police on 101, or if they’d like to report information anonymously they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
