A CELEBRATION of local art is taking place in and around Malmesbury this weekend.

The inaugural Malmesbury Arts and Crafts Trail is taking place on Saturday and Sunday (26-27) and will be exhibiting work from a number of talented local artisans.

The trail has been organised by Kim Langley of Roki pottery, who was keen to give local artists more exposure.

“I’ve been to a lot of arts and crafts trails before and with all the talent in Malmesbury, I felt we should have one for ourselves,” she said.

“We have local art shown in the town hall but a lot of artists don’t get to exhibit there so this is a great way of showing the community the talent on offer.

“We are hoping that if it takes off we can build on it and get more people involved.”
Mary Dodd from Lea is one of those exhibiting her work.

“It’s a brilliant idea,” she said. “It means local artists can show their work without hefty commission charges to galleries.

“It’s a really nice collective of people who have been involved; everyone has been willing to help.
“I’m hoping it will continue for many years to come.”

The trail takes place over a number of venues in and around Malmesbury that will be open from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. It is free to enter but a collection bucket will be at each venue where people can donate to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
