A COFFEE morning to raise money for volunteers to travel to Calais and help those struggling to survive in ‘The Jungle’ was held in Tetbury last week.
Gospel Hall was full of people on Friday, September 18, all sharing the desire to relieve the growing crisis in France.
Cakes, tea and coffee were on offer to those in attendance and the back room of the hall was used as a drop-off point for people wanting to donate items such as sleeping bags and clothes for refugees.
The event was organised by Beki Aldam, who was moved to help in the crisis having seen the upsetting images of refugees stuck in ‘The Jungle’ on television.
“It was horrible seeing stuff on the news and realising nobody is doing anything about it,” she said.
“I have a one-year-old daughter and I just couldn’t imagine being in that situation.
“I heard about the Gloucestershire Calais Refugee Solidarity group online and asked them what I could do to help.
“The response today has been amazing; people have even gone out and bought new things especially for the drop-off.”
The coffee morning raised £486 in total that will go to Calais Refugee Solidarity group.
