Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging is continuing to celebrate its one year anniversary.

Neighbourhood Policing teams (NPT) from Swindon, Trowbridge, Warminster and Malmesbury will be holding the second (week commencing August 24) of two weeks of community events to promote the system and sign up members of the public.

Since its initial launch Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging now has 6471 people signed up. This number continues to grow steadily every day.

People who sign up to the system receive free messages by email, text and voicemail from their local officers about police and crime matters in their area.

NPTs will be holding a community events at Petticoat Lane Market and Festival on Sunday, August 30, at 10am to talk to the public and sign them up to Community Messaging.

Members of the public will be able to meet their local officers, discuss how Community Messaging works and sign up for free and get crime prevention advice.

PCC Angus Macpherson, who commissioned Community Messaging, said: “This is a great tool that provides residents with free updates about local policing and other neighbourhood matters in their area.

"It also allows people receiving messages to send information back to the police and rate messages they receive.

“I am pleased to see it has been well established in our local communities and continues to be popular with residents.”

Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging will not be monitored 24 hours a day. People should always call 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non-emergency.
