IT was another positive year for young students in Wiltshire yesterday as they opened their GCSEs.

Young people in Wiltshire recorded a wide range of successful results with early indications showing it’s been a good year across the county.

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for Children’s Services at Wiltshire Council, said: “I would like to congratulate all the Wiltshire students who will be finding out their GCSE results on what is a very important day for them and their families.

“Young people will have worked extremely hard throughout their studies with guidance and support from their teachers, parents and carers. Today is an important date for all involved and they should be enormously proud of their achievements.”

Carolyn Godfrey, corporate director said: “These results reflect the hard work of all the students and staff and all involved in secondary education in Wiltshire.

"We are very proud of what our young people have achieved and would encourage them to continue their learning through formal training or studies so they can go on to enjoy successful careers.”

There is a range of support on hand for young people who require further advice and guidance regarding their next steps.

Pupils across Wiltshire are being offered GCSE results support online. The results day support service is available through the WiltsNextGen Facebook page.

Teenagers can talk about their options whether their exam results were better than expected or were disappointing.

Personal advisors will be available from 9am-4pm today (August 21). A private message can be sent via facebook.com/WiltshireYouth to organise.

The National Careers Service provides information advice and guidance for young people and information can be found at nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk.

Wiltshire Council’s Your Choices website also gives advice and support post 16 and right up to university. Visit wiltshirechoices.org.uk for more information.
