There are only a couple of weeks left to nominate an individual, team or organisation for one of this year's Wiltshire Sports Awards.

People have until 5pm on Thursday, August 27, to make a nomination for this year’s Wiltshire Council-hosted awards, now in its sixth year.

The awards recognise and reward athletes, clubs, coaches and volunteers from across the county.

Anyone can nominate someone for one of the 12 award categories, with the top three from each being invited to attend the prestigious presentation event on October 21 in County Hall, Trowbridge.

It will be hosted by former England rugby captain, Phil de Glanville along with a special guest yet to be announced.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure and sport, said: “This is the final opportunity for anyone to nominate someone, a team, or an organisation they believe is making a real difference and deserves to be recognised for what they do.

"We have already received many really great nominations, but with all the good work which takes place in Wiltshire we know there are even more out there.

"I am really looking forward to showcasing and publicising the amazing achievements of sports people and volunteers in Wiltshire.”

Maggie Rae, corporate director, said: "Sport plays a major part in our health and wellbeing. These awards aim to honour those who have achieved so much, as well as those who give their time tirelessly and enthusiastically to promote and and support the growth of sport in Wiltshire.

"Every year we get some outstanding nominations, and this year is no different.

"We just want one last push to make sure we can recognise the achievements of some of the amazing people and groups we have in our county.”

Stuart Slater, chair of Marlborough Youth Football Club, winners of the 2014 Sports Club of the Year said: “Winning Sports Club of the Year had a huge knock on effect and has helped to motivate our volunteers and get support from sponsors and facility partners.

"It’s the best thing that’s happened to us. If anyone is involved in a club or knows a coach or athlete who deserves recognition then I strongly urge them to nominate them.”
