LANDLORDS should be prepared for the arrival of new safety laws according to Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
A law making it compulsory for all landlords to fit smoke alarms in rented homes are expected to come into effect from October 2015, along with rules meaning carbon monoxide alarms must also be fitted in properties with solid fuel fires or boilers.
To help landlords gear up for the new regulations and avoid hefty fines the Government has provided every Fire & Rescue Service with a limited number of free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to give out to landlords.
The free alarms can be collected in Swindon, Trowbridge and Salisbury. Landlords who wish to claim their alarms should visit wiltsfire.gov.uk/smokealarmsforlandlords
