The Wiltshire Air Ambulance is often spotted zipping around the county and beyond visiting medical emergencies from allergic reactions to serious car crashes.

Every day the staff at the charity deal with life and death situations, often arriving first and being the only chance victims have of pulling through a life threatening situation.

Without the crew and the service they provide Charlton’s Lucas Duff could well have died from an allergic reaction in Malmesbury and he will join many others who owe their life to someone in one of those orange jumpsuits.

The fact that Lucas’ father has organised a special fundraising trip to pay back the Air Ambulance is brilliant and will go a long way to helping them cover the cost of another airlift.

Sadly not every passenger carried by the air ambulance makes it to the hospital, or back out if they do get through the doors in time.

Even if every person airlifted by the new helicopter survived and paid back the rough cost of an airlift through charitable events there would still be other costs to cover and more funds to be found.

Now more than ever the air ambulance needs the support of the community, further fundraising to say thank you for the good work they do and a little more to help keep them flying for when the next accident happens.

Hopefully the Duffs’ story will go some way to inspiring one or two more fundraisers.
