ANYONE who spots fraud while out and about can now report it to Wiltshire Council via their smartphones thanks to a new app.

Almost half of cases looked at by Wiltshire Council are reported by members of the public, with the majority of those going through the council’s website last year.

The My Wiltshire App will now allow people to report anything from housing benefit fraud to blue badge misuse.

Released by Wiltshire Council, versions are available on Android, Windows and Blackberry, in a bid to help the council crackdown on fraud.

Dick Tonge, cabinet member for finance, said: “Reports from members of the public have always helped us to prevent fraud and prevent taxpayers’ money being wasted.

“We’re very grateful to the public for all the help they give us in stamping out fraud and this new feature will make it even easier to report a concern so we can follow it up.”

Any report from a member of the public is treated confidentially. The information will be looked at and checked by the investigation team and investigated further
