STUDENTS from Malmesbury School took part in a huge parade at Salisbury Cathedral to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta last week.
The team from the school, made up of art Teacher Jennie Jones and students Oceanne Chin, Ellie Harwood and Megan Rexworthy, designed and made their own giant Baron puppet to represent the Malmesbury area.
Their Baron was amongst the procession of 18 to represent the group of rebel barons who met King John at Runnymede eight centuries ago to the day on June 15, when he agreed to a series of promises to uphold the rights of individuals.
The parade itself was just one part of the anniversary celebrations and 25 other Barons sponsored by businesses from across the county will be auctioned on October 1 with all proceeds going to the Trussell Trust, which runs the biggest network of foodbanks in the UK.
These Barons are painted by regional artists around a diverse range of themes including celebrations of the charter but also branching out to Wiltshire’s fire service, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld and Japanese phenomenon Hello Kitty.
