The concerns of the residents of Reeds Farm are being listened to by the town council and Wiltshire Council but the authorities must not drag their heels unless they wish to be held partially responsible for potential crashes on the street.

A general lack of visibility has been compounded by a high fence being installed on one corner, but the campaigners are in agreement that the owner is within their rights and that the problem runs deeper.

People from outside the town parking along the road, much as they do throughout the centre, are causing problems and possibly providing the backdrop to a tragedy.

In an area not far from a primary school that will soon become a gateway to the newly built Filands estate, the potential for children to appear from behind parked cars is only going to increase.

Driver behaviour, particularly with regards to speed, could be altered to lessen the problem but traffic calming measures are sure to become unpopular over time and will take longer than double yellow lines or waiting restrictions.

Sadly for residents they will have to wade through an ocean of red tape to get where they want to be, but they should take some comfort in knowing that they are trying to do the right thing, the right way.

If they are successful they will improve their town and lessen the chances of someone being hurt by speeding or inconsiderate parking.
