A LESSON in dance, culture and history from the First World War will be going ahead in Malmesbury as part of the Dancing Back to 1914 project next Monday.
Young people, from 12 to 19 years old, are invited to learn dances from the First World War and to learn a little more about the world of our recent ancestors.
As well as preparing dance performances, young people will gain an insight into social life during the decade by visiting museums and historic buildings, hearing stories from the time and reading letters from the frontlines of the war.
The project will run for a year in term time only with performances in the summer, at Christmas and spring 2016.
Young people can either sign up for one term or for the whole year.
Any young people who want to learn the dances or get involved in preparing for performances including costume and stage design, are being invited to attend, with no previous dance experience necessary.
The first free session in Malmesbury will be at Malmesbury Town Hall from 4.30pm to 6pm on April 27.
Wiltshire Council was awarded £34,600 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for this project, which will also hold dance sessions in Tidworth, Trowbridge and Salisbury.
