AROUND £500 has been raised for a charity appeal after a weekend of fun involving the Easter bunny.

Volunteers from charity HEALS Malmesbury were out in the town’s Market Cross on Saturday afternoon giving out goodie bags of sweet treats for a suggested donation of £2 each.

Between cash given for the sweets, a raffle and previous donations given by members of the public just over £500 has now been raised for the charity’s Easter Appeal.

The funds from the appeal will be split between a gardening project for Swindon Women’s Refuge and a group for adults in the Malmesbury area who have special educational needs or autism.

Manager of HEALS Alison Cross-Jones said that the day was well attended and thanked everybody who came to have their picture taken with the Easter bunny.

“It was really, really good,” she said, “The children loved their goodie bags and people have already been commenting on Facebook saying they were looking forward to next year.”

She added: “This will help us achieve our target of £2,000 to split between the two charities throughout the year.”
