A FARM manager from Oaksey is setting out on the adventure of a life time as she treks through the Sahara desert for four days in November.

Hannah Lawrence, 39, studied at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester and went on to become a farm business manager, working with British dairy farmers.

From her experience Hannah said she knows how difficult it can be working as a farmer and to help those in crisis, as well as to undertake and amazing journey, she decided to take the trek to raise money for the Addington Fund.

The Addington Fund provides homes and emergency grants for farming families in England and Wales who have to leave the farming industry will lose their home as a result.

The Fund was set up to respond to the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, when it gave out grants totalling £10.3million to over 22,000 needy farmers.

Speaking about her motivation Hannah said that last year she planned do something sporting every month and had now decided to take it a step further.

She said: “I am extremely passionate about agriculture and working in the field with farmers means that I can come across some very difficult situations. Unlike many other industries the farming industry work with their hearts as much as their heads.”

She added: “Our Farmers are the stewards of this land, and just as it is their responsibility to feed a growing population and maintain our beautiful countryside I see it as our responsibility to support those in crisis so that we can secure the future of the Agricultural industry and the landscape for the next generation.”

Hannah is hoping to raise at least £1,600 for the chosen charity and is already an eighth of the way to reaching her target.
