A NEW tattoo hygiene scheme is being rolled out across Wiltshire to keep safety standards high.
Wiltshire Council is working with local tattoo studios to launch the Tattoo Hygiene Rating Scheme, which has already been adopted across Wales.
A total of 32 studios in Wiltshire have already opted into the scheme, choosing to have the hygiene at their studio reviewed against a number of standards and then rated publically using a four-tiered system.
Wiltshire Council explained that unregistered tattooists are illegal and of public health concern because needles may not be properly sterilised and ink may be of a poor quality.
The council is asking for people to help reduce the number of tattoos being carried out illegally by contacting the council on 01225 716685 if they know of tattoos being done illegally. Anonymity will be maintained for anyone coming forward.
