FUNDRAISING for improvements to Sherston’s village hall is soon to get underway in earnest, but organisers are remaining tight-lipped about events they hope to put on.

Deputy chairman of the village hall committee Chris Pickthall said the committee planning the improvements had some big things in the pipeline and would be announcing details soon.

The inside of the hall was recently sandblasted to reveal the stone underneath and organisers are hoping to improve the look of the outside by removing the outdated frontage.

The team also plans to install a new foyer and improve toilet and kitchen space, making the venue much more suited to be used by the community, particularly the village’s thriving drama group.

Work should take place in the summer of 2016, to coincide with summer holidays.

Mr Pickthall said: “We haven’t worked out exactly how much money we need yet, but it will be quite a bit.

“There’s a big project for the post office, but we’ve still got this 1970s frontage for this lovely old building.”

Mr Pickthall refused to give away the nature of the planned events but made it clear that they would worth looking out for.

He said: “It’s going to be very, very interesting. We have something in mind and if we can get it all tied up it’s going to be marvellous.”
