A GROUP of potential firefighters have been put through their paces at a recruitment evening at Malmesbury fire station.

On January 14 a group of Malmesbury residents interested in joining the fire service came to the community’s fire station to learn more about what they do.

Watch manager at Malmesbury Fire Station Chris Harvey explained: “It was a recruitment open evening at Malmesbury Fire station to give potential new recruits a hands-on experience in a number of areas, including searching techniques while unable to see, following a guide line and getting involved with the RTC practices of cutting up a car.”

The team are hopeful that some of those who attended will join up following their experience and are encouraging others to get involved by calling into the station between 7pm and 9pm on any Monday evening to learn more.

On call firefighters are part-time and make themselves available for emergency call-outs for between 48 and 120 hours per week.
