POPULAR photographer Robert Peel is holding his last exhibition in Malmesbury until at least 2017.

Robert’s pictures showcase the town and its beautiful surroundings as well as the fun-loving residents.

His shots  have appeared in The Times, The Telegraph and The Guardian over the years, but his latest exhibition at Malmesbury Town Hall’s gallery will be his last there for at least three years as the venue is fully booked until 2017.

Robert, 55, said that when he first moved to Malmesbury in 1990, there was a lack of high quality photos of the town available to the public.

This inspired him to get out and about with his camera, and he has become a familiar face in Malmesbury over the years.

He said: “I decided, having had an interesting photography for many years, to get out and start taking some pictures of Malmesbury.”

His current exhibition includes a 306-photo collage titled Faces of Malmesbury as well as the landscape pictures he is renowned for.

The hundreds of faces in the collage were photographed in and around the town during Malmesbury Carnival, WOMAD and the more recent zombie walk, with both Robert and amateur photographer Anna Ostrowska behind the lens.

Robert said: “During these fun town events people that would never normally dress up can be captured in fancy dress with painted faces while acting out theme characters.

“It’s a great opportunity to capture the most camera-shy people so they’ll be in for a surprise when they see themselves in print.”

The exhibition takes place until December 4 and features 50 large prints and smaller framed photographs, including aerial shots from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s visit to the town where members of the public were baptised in a huge pool.

Framed prints and Christmas cards are available at the exhibition and Robert will be there on Saturdays until mid afternoon, and on 01666 826 573.
