A CAMPAIGN to get road users to look out for each other has been launched by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

This comes amid National Road Safety Week which started yesterday.

Two Safe Drive Stay Alive presentations are being held in the next few days, and the theme of the campaign, organised by the road safety charity Brake, is to 'look out for each other'.

The Safe Drive programme, which primarily targets Year 11 students across Wiltshire and Swindon, is very much focused on the behaviour of everyone in a vehicle, not just the driver.

Ian Hopkins, road safety development manager at Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our presentation is underpinned by a hard-hitting video, which sets out in graphic detail the consequences of irresponsible behaviour.

"It’s far too easy to think that only drivers have to be careful when, actually, we all have to put safety first – whether we’re a passenger, a cyclist or a pedestrian.”

Safe Drive Stay Alive is a Wiltshire and Swindon road safety initiative coordinated by Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service on behalf of a partnership including Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Arval Ltd and SWIFT Medics.

The presentation was seen by students at Wiltshire College last week and, this week, it will be going to Wellington Academy in Tidworth tomorrow and New College in Swindon on Thursday.
