Wiltshire Police are warning motorists to be aware of a large abnormal load that will be moving through the county this weekend.

At approximately 07:00 hours on Sunday 16th November 2014 a specialised load transporter carrying metal frames, will be escorted by Wiltshire Police from Brook Lane, Westbury to M4 Junction 18. The transporters will then continue its planned route to Eastleigh, Hampshire.

The transporter and its load will measure 6.40 metres (21ft) wide, 4.42 m (14ft-06ins) high with an overall length of 21.17 m (70 ft) and gross weight of 44 tonnes.

Due to the size of this transporter it will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion. When the load travels on the A350, A420, A46 to M4 junction 18 they will at times take up the entire carriageway. Drivers are asked to be prepared and expect delays. It is estimated that this load will take approximately 4 - 5hours to get from Westbury to M4 junction 18.

Wherever possible disruption will be kept to a minimum but hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient if they come across this load. Anyone travelling over this period to catch a flight or meet appointments should allow sufficient additional time.

Regular updates and travel information in respect of this abnormal load will be passed from our control room at Devizes when appropriate to help motorists plan their journey.

The journey will begin at 07:00pm from West Wilts Trading Estate, Westbury, where the load will be transported in convoy. It departs Westbury on the B3097 before travelling North on the A350 towards Chippenham, due to road works it is diverted along the A420 before turning right on the A46 to arrive at M4 junction 18, before continuing East on the M4.

Police escorting resources are being provided by volunteer Police Officers on rest days, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public.
