VOLUNTEERS are wanted to take part in a flood warden scheme in Malmesbury.

Volunteers will act as flood wardens for each vulnerable area in the town, under the scheme set up by the town council.

Wardens are already in place for most of the areas but volunteers are still needed from the Park Road and the Silk Mills areas of the town.

Wardens will not be expected to put their own life, or anyone else’s, at risk. They will instead act as a channel of communication between their area and the town council flood co-ordinator, who will work with the emergency services.

Sue Poole, mayor of Malmesbury, said: “The role of a flood warden is neither onerous nor dangerous.

“We have arranged for full training to be given by Wiltshire Council and the Environment Agency. However, we have delayed this, hoping to have a full compliment of volunteers before starting.”

“You will be insured and provided with any necessary equipment. The training event will take place towards the end of October for those flood wardens who have volunteered.”

Anyone who lives in, or adjacent, to Park Road or the Silk Mills, who is interested in more information should contact the Mayor, either through the website http://malmesbury.gov.uk/latest-news/245-flood-warden-scheme.html or by visiting the Tourist Information Centre.
