THOUSANDS turned out for the annual 999 spectacular at Hullavington on Sunday.

Fire engines and policed cars hurtled along the runways with the sirens blaring and blue lights flashing, a crashed bus was recovered and police dogs caught crooks during the Emergency Services Show.

“We had an absolutely fantastic day, the sunshine brought out the crowds and everyone seemed to have a great time, said spokesman Louise Knox

“We did have a bit of a bottleneck at the main entrance in the first hour or so, we were victims of our own success and had far more people turn up than usual at that stage. Our apologies to anyone caught up in that.”

She said more gates were opened to deal with the queues and the committee was looking at improvements for next year.

Chairman Chris Harvey added: “We are looking forward to building something very special over the next year for our 10th birthday show.”

The event, which is already planned September 13, 2015, has raised thousands for charity. Last year £26,000 was handed out and early indications are that this year could match it.
