MALMESBURY’S Vicfest has raised £2,750 for the town’s embattled football club and showcased a host of the town’s young talent.
The festival’s second year saw around 300 people attend on Friday July 4 with as many as 400 on Saturday July 5.
Entertainment was provided by several bands including headliners Rumble Pack (aka Darwin Republic) on Friday and SkyBurnsRed on Saturday.
As well as music visitors enjoyed a bar, barbecue and demonstrations from The Stencil Shed and a performance from dance group Art Frenzy.
Malmesbury Victory Football Club’s secretary Julie Exton thanked bands, volunteers and visitors for the superb turnout and all the time they invested in the event.
She said “It went absolutely great; it was so well supported by the community.”
“Each time it seems to get a little bit bigger. We haven’t got a date set but we will hold Vic 2015.”
As well as musical entertainment from a host of bands on both days the festival held a junior ‘Malmesbury’s got talent’ show judged by mayor Sue Poole, which saw Charlotte Waller win the contest.
Speaking about Charlotte, Julie said “If she doesn’t become a star then nobody will.”
Proceeds from the event go towards the football club which was badly hit when the entire pitch flooded in 2012, effectively ending the team's season.
Julie said that the club was no longer in an immediate crisis and that she looked forward to seeing ticket sales increase for the team following a change of players.
She said “Last year the whole team was Swindon based but this year it’s all local lads.”
