THE stage is being set for Malmesbury Victoria’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Bands and volunteers from all over the area are pitching in to make the two day VicFest a success.

Real ales, local ciders and a barbecue are all on the menu along with music, tea and cakes in the afternoon and a fun fair for the children.

“We have lots of bands all giving their time for free,” said club secretary Julie Exton. “We are also opening at 12 on Saturday for a car boot sale and community stalls.”

New for this year is a talent contest for youngsters 16 and under on Saturday at 3pm.

The gates to the Flying Monk Ground open at 7pm tomorrow night. Admission costs £1 for adults.

“We were going to have it free and children do have free admission, but if 300 people turn up that’s another £300. I always feel even if you’re a single parent you can afford a pound to come in and enjoy the music,” explained Julie.

Vicfest comes in the wake of a successful beer and sausage festival that raised several thousand pounds for the club, which was in dire financial straits following two years of repeated winter flooding.

Call 0744 5528188 for information on entering the talent contest.
