ONE of Sherston’s lost pubs has come back to life as a tea room and bed and breakfast.
The Angel closed as a hostelry nearly 25 years ago but re-opened to customers this week after a major renovation by owners, former Yorkshire and international cricketer Paul Jarvis and his wife Caroline.
“Sherston needed something like this,” said manager Tara Punter who greeted her first customers on Tuesday. “We have been busier than we thought we would. People seem thrilled.”
Locals had welcomed the new facility, especially as their only remaining pub was currently closed following last month’s fire.
One resident had even been back four times during the first day, bringing different people and the tea rooms, which serves local produce including Paul’s home grown rare breeds pork, had also hosted a business meeting.
The Angel first opened in the 1500s, but closed in 1990 after it became notorious for hosting sex shows. Until recently it was home to Sherston Software.
The tearoom is open seven days a week.
