INTREPID father and daughter John Slater and Becki Deacon raised more than £600 for Dorothy House Hospice when they leapt out of a plane in the skies above Wiltshire.

The pair from Malmesbury made the jump in memory of wife and mother Lyn who was cared for at the hospice before her death four years ago from cervical cancer.

John, 63, is no stranger to acts of derring-do, having roped from helicopters during his army days 30 years ago. But it was the first time Becki had flown in an aircraft.

Afterwards John described the experience as awesome. He told the Standard: “Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it.” In fact other members of the family had been inspired and were talking about joining in with another jump next year.

A veteran fundraiser for the hospice, he chose the tandem parachute jump after discovering he wouldn’t be able to wingwalk for charity.
