More than 70 cars attacked in one night

VANDALS went on a tyre-slashing rampage damaging more than 70 cars in Swindon early today.

Vehicles parking in residential streets between Old Town and the town centre were attacked between 3am and 5am.

"This sort of crime absolutely beggars belief,” said Supt Gavin Williams. "The victims of these crimes are hard-working families who have lawfully parked their vehicles outside of their homes and who have expected, rightly so, that their vehicles are safe to leave overnight.”

Officers expect the number of reports to rise as more people discover their cars have been targeted.

“If needs be, I will assign more officers to this case, said Supt Williams. "Someone out there knows who is responsible for this and I would urge them, or the perpetrators, to come forward immediately.

"All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and any scrap of information might prove vital.”

Anyone with information can call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
