A POPULAR children’s author is due to return to her ancestral home near Oaksey to help children learn about nature.

Eugenie Summerfield, who used to write for Listen with Mother on the radio and whose Willow Pattern Story and Green Grobblop series are a children’s favourite is giving a book reading at Lower Moor Farm next Wednesday (FEB13) for a special half-term event.

Her family lived at the farm years ago before it became a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve.

Ellie Jones from the trust said: “Her books are all about nature and really help children to develop a passion for the world around them so it’s a great addition to our day to have her with us.”

The day includes a nature walk, a chance to meet a bird of prey and investigate what owls have been eating over the winter, Education officer Anne Billinge said: Kids like nothing more than being outdoors, regardless of the weather and our activities are ideal for a great winter’s morning outside.

We will have a real live bird of prey from Wings of Freedom, we’ll be dissecting the regurgitated pellets from owls to see what they eat and much more.

Wellies and warm clothes are advised. More details are available online at wiltshirewildlife.org or by calling 01722 790770.
