Labour leader Ed Miliband has been hit with an egg during a walkabout in Southampton.

Mr Miliband was giving a TV interview when a man in a hat came through the throng and slapped the egg on to his shoulder. The egg broke on to Mr Miliband's jacket, which he quickly removed and gave to an aide as the man ran off down the street.

He finished the interview in just a shirt and tie, made an exit and went back to his car.

He was there to celebrate Labour's victory in Southampton and declared: "We are back in the south."

After being hit and removing his dirtied jacket, Mr Miliband joked that the man was "obviously not one of my fans".

He later Tweeted: "For those wondering about egg's origins, fairly sure it wasn't free range but nothing can take away from cracking result in Southampton..."

Couldnt of happened to a nicer guy - well done to the egg thrower.

People in this country want to wake up and realise the country is as it is because of the Labour Party and the idiots who have voted labour councillors back in makes me think there are alot of thick people in the country that just dont understand. If you want this country to go the same way as Greece then by putting the idiots of the labour party back in will bankrupt the country.

You think the Government of *one* country caused the global economic crisis, that egg-throwing is a valid means of making a political statement, that local councillors have anything to do with National spending... and you call *other* people stupid?

You're a poster-child for the Dunning-Kreuger effect.

And, small point, but since you brought up people being thick - it couldn't *have* happened to a nicer guy, not couldn't "of".
