ONE of the North Cotswolds towns worst hit by the devastating 2007 floods has largely escaped last weekend’s bout of flooding.

Three houses on The Green, Moreton-in-Marsh, and a number on Croft Holm were flooded early on Sunday morning following heavy rain on Saturday night.

Town Council chairman Cllr Colin Hancox said he and several members of his family had been out from just after 5am on Sunday morning directing traffic after the High Street flooded from the Swan Inn to Parkers Lane.

“The flood itself wasn’t quite as bad as it has been in the past but we were worried cars and lorries splashing water onto houses could cause damage,” he said.

“A lot of it comes down the hills from Batsford and Bourton-on-the-Hill and the drains on the High Street can’t cope with that much water.”

The same area also flooded on five days earlier on Wednesday November 21.

Elsewhere in the North Cotswolds, popular Bourton-on-the-Water wildlife park Birdland was closed on Monday following the heavy rain.
