TWO flood alerts have been issued for the Cotswolds following last night and this morning’s heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for the River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh, which was severely affected by the devastating floods of 2007, to Cassington.

Areas expected to be affected include Kingham, Bledington, Milton under Wychwood, Shipton under Wychwood, Ascott under Wychwood, Charlbury, Fawler and Long Hanborough, along with the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock.

A second flood alert has been issued for the River Dikler from Condicote to Little Rissington, affecting Bourton-on-the-Water as well as Upper and Lower Rissington.

Flooding was reported on the A433 outside Highgrove, at the Fosseway near Shipton Moyne, Foxley Road, Malmesbury.

The A429 was closed between Burton Hill and the M4 and the Kingway Bridge was impassable.

The rain is expected to last throughout the morning with light showers forecast until Thursday.

Further heavy rain is expected tomorrow.
