EVERY morning when William and Jennifer Brookes wake up they can enjoy the sight of a hollyhocks outside their bedroom window - the odd thing is though, that the room is 12 feet above the ground.

The perennial plant has shot up so high outside the front of the house at Down Ampney cross roads that it stands far above its usual average height of between 5ft and 8ft that.

The keen gardeners have been growing the flowers for seven to eight years, but are at a loss to explain how the latest addition reached such great heights.

Jennifer said: "This one is right in front of our lounge window and we can hardly see out. I've never seen anything like it.

"The plant's blooms come out from the bottom upwards, and as it has only just started blossoming there is every chance it will grow even higher, added Jennifer.
