THREE members of the same family have been charged with attempting to murder a relative who was stabbed at the Stow-on-the-Wold Horse fair last month.

Eddie Porter, 58, his wife Kathleen, 51, and their son Eddie junior, 24, all of Toddington road, Luton, had previously been charged with wounding Paul Porter with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

But yesterday at Gloucester Crown Court they were also charged with the attempted murder of Mr Porter, who is a nephew of Eddie senior and his wife.

Recorder Shamim Qureshi told them that because of the new charge their case would have to go to Bristol crown court for all future hearings.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Bristol next Tuesday.

Last week when the trio were before the Gloucester court the prosecution said Paul Porter was 'hovering between life and death' because of the seriousness of his injuries.

It was understood today, however, that he is now off the critical list after two operations but may yet face further surgery.

It is alleged that Paul Porter was held down by Mr and Mrs Porter while thier son stabbed him twice on May 13 this year during the horse fair at Stow.

During today's hearing, which was attended by several members of the Porter family, prosecutor Derek Ryder said: "The decision has now been made to charge all three defendants with attempted murder.

"I would ask for them to be charged before the court and for you then to send the case to Bristol next week."

The clerk of the court then read out the new charge alleging that on May 13th the three defendants all attempted to murder Paul Porter.

Recorder Qureshi said that as well as sending the new charge to Bristol for next week's preliminary hearing he would also transfer the charge of wounding with intent there.

"Next Tuesday morning you will be produced at Bristol Crown Court and that is where all future hearings will take place," he added.
