NOTORIOUS criminal Casey Goble was back behind bars this week after being convicted of burgling a house on Earl Bathurst's Cirencester Park Estate.

Goble, 35, of Melmore Gardens had denied entering the house in Park Street with intent to steal but was found guilty by the Gloucester Crown Court jury.

Recorder Frank Privett remanded Goble in custody for a pre-sentence report and said the conviction makes him a 'three strikes' burglar liable to a minimum three-year jail term.

Prosecutor Paul Cook said on October 1 Goble was seen going to victim's home.

Neighbour Roger Bruton, a builder, was on the roof of his nearby home having a smoke when he saw and recognised Goble.

"He saw the defendant actually inside the Lodge, looking out of the front window," said Mr Cook.

"A few minutes after that he saw the defendant leaving. He filmed him on his mobile phone.

"He reported this to [the victim] who returned home. Nothing had been taken but he noticed that a living room cupboard had been gone through."

Goble, who has been in crown court five times in the last ten years for burglary offences, said at no point did he enter the house but at the end of a two-day trial Goble was convicted by a majority of 10-2 of burglary with intent to steal.

Defence solicitor Steve Young asked the court to grant Goble bail pending sentence.

"He has been suffering for some time with Deep Vein Thrombosis," Mr Young said. "He is a man in very poor health.

"He would not, I suspect, receive the right level of care he would otherwise receive in the community."

Recorder Privett said Goble had a past conviction for escape and in view of his record and the likely sentence remanded in custody to be sentenced on March 16.
