Hundred-year-old Yew tree in the grounds of the Royal Oak pub in Andoversford will be protected

A HUNDRED-YEAR-OLD yew tree in the grounds of an Andoversford pub has been officially protected after the owner of a neighbouring house complained it was damaging his house.
Cotswold District Council’s appeals committee heard last week that the owner of a house neighbouring the Gloucester Road pub, Tony Petri, had objected to a tree protection order placed on the yew tree in the grounds of the Royal Oak in Andoversford.
He argued that the branches of the tree were damaging his house and that berries were falling off the branches and staining his patio, but clarified that he did not wish to cut it down, only to be able to cut back the branches.
The committee decided to enforce the Tree Protection Order, but told Mr Petri he had a common law right to cut back the branches overhanging onto his property and was welcome to apply for permission to carry out the work.
