THE man who died in a suspected hit and run in South Cerney on Sunday morning has been named locally as Max Hartshorne.

The 24-year-old was walking along the B4696 Spine Road close to the crossroads with Broadway Lane and Wickwater Lane at around 12.30am on Sunday when it is thought he was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries.

Police believe at least one car, which failed to stop, is involved. His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

A number of tributes have been left on a Facebook page paying tribute to Max.

“I truly have lost a best friend, brother and part of myself. my only comfort is that i think you knew how much you meant to me. you were such a massive influence in my life and you forever will be. love you brother,” read one.

“My Love to all of the Hartshorne family. I can't find the words to describe how much I admired and respected Max. Max you'll remain part of everyone you knew. I'll never forget you. My Love Always,” said another.

A third read: “Max, you are a beautiful, and cheeky chap, loved by so many with your wonderful energetic personality, we only spoke on the exciting nights out we all undertook out in ciren back in the day and at the lakes, but you still had an impact on me, sleep easy, keep it all fun filled until we all meet you again.”

Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court said formal identification was likely to take place on Tuesday or Wendesday.
