OBJECTORS have failed to scupper a bid for a new late-night venue in Cirencester.

Janinka Diverio, who runs Cirencester Party Shop in Brewery Court, can give more people the chance to celebrate private functions at The Party Loft after the licensing committee at Cotswold District Council gave the go-ahead to her late-night opening plans.

She can now open the venue above her party shop from 12pm to midnight Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 11pm on a Sunday.

The committee received five objections from people living nearby who claimed boisterous bashes would add to mounting town centre rowdiness.

Cricklade Street resident James Fraser invited members of the licensing sub-committee to spend time in the area on a Saturday night to see for themselves "how a beautiful market town like Cirencester turns into a playground for drunken feral youth".

He added: "I've only been here for two months and have been shocked by groups of drunks in Cricklade Street and Brewery Court shouting, fighting, ripping open rubbish sacks and committing acts of criminal damage to local businesses."

CDC gave the green light for a range of activities to take place at The Party Loft including plays, films, live music and the sale of alcohol.

Miss Diverio assured objectors: "Our clientele is likely to be more mature and akin to Waterstone's and Brewery Arts customers and we'd hope to help enforce these standards for a more harmonious and thriving community."

She also stressed that sound-proofing would be undertaken and that security staff and a manager would be present at all evening events.

Conditions of the license included pre-booking for all private functions and no promoting of events on social network sites.
