WHILE I don’t like to panic the people of the Cotswolds, I do feel that I ought to warn you all that our MP, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has lovingly supported the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, even last week voting down the amendments to it by that hive of radicals, the House of Lords.

Dictatorship comes in this Bill in the banal shape of Section 9 which gives ministers the power to create, amend or repeal any law without any reference to Parliament (that’s our Geoffrey amongst others).

That’s right, Theresa May and co. will be able, subject to some constraints, to pass any law that they like. And if Government don’t like the constraints, they can revise the bill to remove them.

This, to my way of thinking, looks like dictatorship.

So, after Brexit Day (March next year), Geoffrey and his cronies become redundant and cannot stop even the nastiest of laws passing.

Remind me again, wasn’t the sovereignty of Parliament the reason why people voted to leave the EU? Or was it the supposed lack of democracy in the EU Parliament?

Ever had the feeling you’ve been fooled?
