ARE you interested in what's happening where you live?

Do you enjoy writing and keeping other people informed about what's going on?

If so, you would probably enjoy being a member of the new Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard community correspondents club.

The club is being set up to help keep communities informed about all the fabulous things happening around them.

We are looking for volunteers who can act as points of contact for local organisations and individuals.

They will write up their news every week and send it to the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard for publication in print and online.

Those joining the club will become part of the newspaper's established network of community correspondents.

They include Mike Stuart, aged 80, who has been keeping his neighbours in South Cerney, near Cirencester, up to date with local news for nine years.

He said: "People stop me in the street now to let me know what's going on.

"It's good to know I'm contributing to village life."

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard editor John Wilson said the correspondents club was being launched to give people a way of sharing news about their village or community with the help of a trusted local newspaper, its website and social media output.

"It is so important that local people know what's happening where they live, and that they trust and have respect for who is publishing and distributing that news.

"That's why we want to bring local correspondents under the umbrella of our correspondents club, where they will receive the support of professional journalists at the Standard."

There is a chance to find out more about the club, ask questions and submit ideas at its first meeting at South Cerney Village Hall at 11.30am on Friday, July 6. You can also email john.wilson@newsquest.co.uk for more information.
