WAITROSE have today made steps to reduce their plastic usage.
The giant supermarket who have shops in Cirencester and Malmesbury are removing all disposable cups from its cafe.
Shoppers who enjoy the free hot drink offer don't need to worry however, as the offer will continue for shoppers with myWaitrose cards as long as they bring their own reusable cup/mug.
The changes are part of Waitrose's commitment to reduce the use of plastic.
Waitrose believe that the move will save 52 million disposable cups per year.
Tor Harris, head of sustainability and responsible sourcing at Waitrose, said: “We realise this is a major change, but we believe removing all takeaway disposable cups is the right thing to do for our business and are confident the majority of customers will support the environmental benefits.
“It underlines our commitment to plastic and packaging reduction and our aim is to deliver this as quickly as possible.”
