WESTONBIRT School got into the spirit of World Book Week as they kicked off a with a Harry Potter themed day on Monday.

The school, which is housed in a building which is reminiscent to Hogwarts, invited year six pupils from prep and primary schools throughout Gloucestershire and Wiltshire to their magical themed literacy day where teachers dressed up as characters from the JK Rowling novel.

Pupils from Avening Primary, St Marys Tetbury, Rodmarton School, Leighterton Primary, Pinewood School, Meadowpark School, Hatherop Castle Prep and St Margaret's Prep all got to experience a 'Care of Magical Creatures' where a visiting zoologist introduced them to an array of snakes, spiders and insects one of which was a tailless whip scorpion that featured in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

As well as the animals, pupils were also set a task from Drama teacher Mrs Lisa Southam acted as Rita Skeeter, who featured as a journalist in the Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows films.

Southam tasked the year six children to write compelling news reports for the 'Daily Prophet Newspaper' that's featured in the movies.

The Westonbirt Drama department also helped also helped students create magical GIFs against a green screen while the English department put on writing workshops.

The official World Book is Thursday March 1.
