CIRENCESTER charity The Churn Project, a hub of community support in Cirencester and the surrounding villages, is celebrating the setting up of its latest initiative The Men’s Shed.

The ultimate men’s escape, The Churn Men’s Shed is based in the Old Hose Repair Workshop at the back of Cirencester Fire Station, thanks to the support of Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

A larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden, The Churn Men’s Shed gives men a place to get together, to indulge their practical interests and skills and to share knowledge and experience over a cuppa.

The workshop is currently being converted by volunteers into a working shed and, once it is fully up and running, the plan is that members will work on projects together at their own pace, making items for themselves, for the Shed, and for projects that will benefit the town or wider community.

Donations of tools and materials will be welcome, and arrangements can be made to collect them if necessary.

Dean Evans, station manager for the Cotswold District, said: “Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is dedicated to the communities it serves, so we are keen to support the Churn Project.

“It also gives us the opportunity to offer our free Safe and Well visits to those involved in the Men’s Shed initiative.”

To arrange a Safe and Well visit from the Fire Service, or for any advice on safety or wellbeing, call 0800 180 41 40 or visit www.glosfire.gov.uk.

The Open Afternoon will take place at The Churn Men’s Shed, Cirencester Fire Station, (please use the rear entrance, behind the Fire Station, on School Lane) on March 1, 2018, at 2pm.
