TOMORROW'S meeting to decide on Bathurst plans for 2,350 homes in Cirencester has been cancelled after snow and icy conditions caused chaos on the roads.

Councillors on Cotswold District Council (CDC) had been due to consider Bathurst Development Ltd's (BDL) Chesterton scheme for the second time tomorrow from 10am at the Baptist Church.

The decision on the outline planning application was deferred for three months from a special CDC meeting on September 26.

The deferment was made on the grounds that further details were needed on issues of access relating to the bus gate, a bus-only road which divides the east and west sides of the development.

CDC have said that it is looking at rescheduling the special meeting for Tuesday, January 16.

It said it had postponed the meeting due to "current and forecast adverse weather conditions" so it could not guarantee the attendance of all councillors, officers, advisors and other participants tomorrow.

A spokesperson added: "We are also mindful of the difficulties likely to be faced by the public in getting to the meeting tomorrow.

"It is probable that the rescheduled meeting will take place at Cirencester Baptist Church on Tuesday 16 January 2018. We will provide more details as soon as we have firmed up the arrangements."

Save Our Cirencester chairman Mark Pratley said of the decision to cancel tomorrow's meeting: "I think it's a move of common sense."

"It's purely because of the weather conditions, but we've always asked for it to be pushed back until after Christmas.

"The next move of common sense would be to delay the meeting until after the inspector has published his findings on the Local Plan."

Jeremy Handel, a spokesperson for BDL said: "This is sounds like a very sensible decision especially if the road conditions aren’t safe.

"We are keen for everybody to be able to attend and for a full and transparent debate to take place – if that means postponing until January then must be the best thing to do."
