A DRIVER who smashed their car into a Cotswold stone wall had a miraculous escape as the car appeared to have leapt over the water and landed into a garden.

A Volkswagen Golf crashed into a wall near a river in Bibury early yesterday morning. Against all odds, the car landed on the other side of the river, in the garden of the Swan Hotel.

The driver, a young woman, was unhurt.

The car was believed to have been heading from the south end of the village on the B4425 towards the bridge over the River Coln.

Bibury resident Steve Turner was alerted of the incident while he was walking to work.

He took a picture of the car and posted it to Facebook with a tongue-in-cheek comment about parking in the village: "I know finding a parking place in Bibury isn’t always easy but this is a bit extreme!"

A police spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 7am yesterday to reports a car had collided with a wall in Bibury, Cirencester. No-one was injured and police attended to assess damage caused to the wall."
