CONCERNS have arisen over a road which has been deemed a ‘skid risk’ and an accident hot spot.

Linda Nieman, 74, from Upper Siddington, raised concerns over the safety of a road after coming across a damaged black Audi A5 on the verge of Park Way at about 7.30pm on Monday, November 6.

She said the car, which had its front smashed up and was sitting in a field, appeared to have come off the road.

Linda, who discovered the wreck while walking her dog, said: “It seemed to have gone through the hedgerow and skidded and turned around.

“The person must’ve got out and walked away. It was covered with frost so it had been there for some time.

“That spot is an accident hot spot.

“I reckon on that Sunday, there was heavy frost and the car must’ve hit black ice and was out of control and went through the fence in the hedgerow.

“A few years ago, a garbage truck slipped over and several men were taken to the hospital. After that, because of the publicity, Highways put in reflector sticks, so for four or five years since then, they seemed to keep the accidents at bay.

“But gradually, the sticks had been knocked down. The cars are hitting the sticks and missing the bend in the road.

“This morning, we saw the last reflector stick knocked down, lying in the grass of the verge.

“I have approached the parish council about having Highways putting the sticks in again and nothing’s been done.

“Actually reflector sticks don’t last long. They need to put in something more heavy duty.

“There was another incident recently this summer but I didn’t get out there quick enough. It flipped over and was in the ditch.”

Richard Gray, local highways manager, however said: “I’ve not been made aware of any recent incidents on Park Way, but I’m grateful for the resident bringing it to our attention.

“We will send out an inspector and arrange replacement bollards if needed.”
