THE Cotswold Academy in Bourton-on-the-Water and Cirencester Deer Park School have been ranked highly in the new secondary school performance schemes.

The Department for Education (DfE) released the latest secondary school rankings after they were assessed on the progress of pupils' learning (a measure called Progress 8) and pupils' attainment (Attainment 8).

The measures looked at how pupils fared across eight subjects.

The rankings by DfE also looked at the percentage of pupils achieving five or more pass grades in their GCSEs (9-4 in English and Maths or A*-C in other subjects).

The Cotswold Academy was tenth out of 42 schools in Gloucestershire for the percentage of pupils passing five of more of their GCSEs - 74 per cent.

Farmor's School was close behind in 11th place, with 73 per cent of pupils. Deer Park School was 15th, with 70 per cent of pupils.

Cirencester Kingshill School (ranked 22nd) and Sir William Romney's in Tetbury (24th) were just below the median with 63 per cent and 62 per cent of pupils achieving five or more GCSE passes, respectively.

The percentages of pupils passing five or more GCSEs in all five state-funded schools in the Cotswolds however was above the national average of 42.4 per cent.

But when looking at progress, the results are slightly different.

The Cotswold Academy is still ranked relatively high when looking at how pupils performed between Key Stage Two (aged 11) and Key Stage Four (aged 16).

The school in Bourton was 11th in Gloucestershire, Sir William Romney's was 14th and Deer Park School was 15th.

The three schools all scored above average progress ratings.

Meanwhile, Kingshill School and Farmor's (which had received above average GCSE passes) were below average in progress ratings.

Gloucester schools High School for Girls and Sir Thomas Rich's School had all their pupils achieve five or more pass grades in GCSE.

Stroud High School was ranked the highest in progress in Gloucestershire and had 98 per cent of its pupils achieve five or more GCSE pass grades.
