OWNERS of expensive cars are being warned to ensure the keys are kept in a safe place while they are out of the house or overnight to help prevent thefts.
A home on London Road in Fairford was burgled on October 7 between 2.30pm and 9pm and two cars were stolen after thieves took the keys from inside the property.
A black Mercedes-AMG A 45 and a black Audi S3 Quattro were stolen, while a further set of keys for a third car were recovered from the driveway.
“I want residents to re-consider where they keep their car keys while they are away from their homes or overnight,” said Cotswold Police Sergeant Garrett Gloyn.
“I would much rather owners of good quality cars keep their keys in their bedrooms instead of on a key rack near their front or back door.”
He said: “If you've got a nice car it's going to be attractive to thieves who are prepared to burgle your house in order to get the keys.
“It seems to me to be a very easy precaution to make it much harder for them to take your car by putting the keys somewhere a bit safer,” he added.
Forensic enquiries are ongoing in regard to the London Road theft.
