  • THERE is no meeting of the Fairford and Lechlade Business Club in August.
  • THE planning application to convert the old Lloyds Bank building to retail and residential has been refused (ref. 17/00867/FUL).
  • THE number of complaints from residents about vehicles speeding around Fairford continues to increase, but  reluctantly, the Town Council voted at the July Town Council meeting to suspend the Speed Watch initiative in Fairford for six months. Volunteers in Honeycombe Leaze and Quenington will continue to borrow Fairford’s equipment and keep up the valuable Speed Watch work. If you would like to see the Speed Watch initiative start up again in January, please contact the Town Council officer on 01285 712344 and register your interest.
  • OVER the summer, there will be a branch of the Cirencester Foodbank in Fairford to support families who won’t be benefitting from school meals over the summer period or anyone else who finds themselves in need. There are several sessions being held at Fairford Primary School from 1-2.30pm on Thursday afternoons throughout August. The next one is on Thursday, August 17, then August 24 and finally August 31. If you do not have vouchers, you can contact Fairford’s Vicar, Rev’d Caroline Symcox, on 01285 712467, who is happy to provide them.
  • ON MONDAY August 21, there will be two free African Drumming workshops for children aged six-14 years. 10-11am and between 11am-12pm in the Keble Room of Fairford Community Centre. 
  • ON TUESDAY, August 22, there will be a two-hour Street Dance workshop between 2-4pm in the Keble Room. Free to attend, but places are limited, so please book online at worldjungle.org.uk.   • LOTS of summer activities at Fairford Library. Events are free but children must be accompanied by an adult. On Thursday, August 24, from 10.30-11.30am, create pictures using felt tips, pencil crayons or paint. Suitable for ages 4+ years. Contact 01285 712599.
  • FAIRFORD Holiday Club at Fairford United Church on Thursday, August 24 from 10am till 1pm.For children and carers. No charge; donations only. Booking preferred with Joanne Roberts on 01285 711386 or email joanneesw@hotmail.co.uk.
  • THE last collection time for Fairford Post Office will change from Monday, August 14 to 5pm. Special delivery will need to be at the Post Office before 4.45pm.

  • THE Gardening Club’s major event, the Flower and Produce Show, is on Saturday, September 2. Closing date for entry forms is Tuesday, August 29. Programmes, details and entry forms are available from the Post Office and can also be found at lechladegardeningclub.org.uk Please deliver your gardening show entries to Audrey Barnes, 1 Roman Way, by Tuesday, August 29. Late entries will not be accepted.
  • LECHLADE Art Society Summer Exhibition starts on Friday, August 25 with its preview evening from 6-8pm when the show will be formally opened with club members by Patron Lord Faringdon. Opening times for the public are 10am-6pm on August 26, 27 and 28 and 10am-4pm on August 29. Art exhibits will be on sale.
